NEW * Message Regarding the Reopening of the Church Following Closure Due to Covid-19
August 23, 2020
Dear Holy Trinity Community of Faith:
It has been five months since we have worshipped together in person, in the sanctuary. It has been five months since we have enjoyed coffee or tea and some goodies and conversation in the fellowship hall. It is has been five months since the last “Coffee and conversation” gathering, Bible study, prayer time and Friendship group meeting. As friends and family, you have probably stayed connected with some folk.
During these past five months our community has experienced lockdown, and now a gradual reopening, with safety precautions in place. Every workplace, every club, every house of worship, every store, has had to grapple with determining a way forward. And school boards are hard at work discerning and planning for a reopening of schools, hopefully next month.
During the past five months the Worship Committee, Pastoral Care Committee and Council have been prompted to respond to life in a pandemic and how to care for our people pastorally, and how to share a weekly message. Pre-pandemic an average of between 40 and 45 people received a message, through attending worship in person. During the pandemic we moved soon into sending a weekly pastoral letter by email or snail mail to our membership and adherents.
From preparing a pastoral letter I gradually moved to preparing a weekly sermon, and as our technical skill and confidence grew, we then sent out a link to an online service. Many thanks go out to Roger West for doing the weekly recording of the service and putting it all together to send out on Sunday morning. About 45 people continue to receive a weekly printed sermon, and about 85 people view the online worship. Thus, the ministry of “feeding the flock” has at least tripled during this time of pandemic.
We are preparing and planning for a re-opening of our church for worship in the sanctuary on Sunday, September 13. So, all able to come to worship in person, will be warmly welcomed in a safe way. And we will of course, need to abide by safety precautions. And for all those who may not yet be comfortable in coming, rest assured we will be continuing on in providing both a recorded service and written sermon. We wish our flock to be fed – nourished and nurtured in the faith.
Council looks forward to worshipping together in the safe ways in which we can, so needless to say, there will be some changes, all in order to minimize risk. Recent good news from Council includes the hiring of two new staff people, Kathy Calverley as church secretary, and Nancy Edwards as custodian, and they will begin September 1st.
Let us look forward to worship this fall as a new beginning, a time of transformation. May the Spirit ever be our guide.

"Agnus Day (in Latin, "Agnes Dei" means "Lamb of God") is the only lectionary-based comic strip on the planet... Each week, Rick (the sheep with the dark nose) and Ted discuss one of the assigned readings from the Common Lectionary. Their conversation drives at a point and sometimes sparks a laugh... Agnus Day is the creation of Pastor James Wetzstein, a Lutheran pastor."
The Agnus Day website provides a discussion on the Bible passage associated with each comic strip. You can even comment on the strip! Archives of past strips can be accessed on the website. Enjoy as a new strip appears each week!
